Cool Mist & Warm Mist Humidifiers - Info to Help You Choose

Air moisture levels for our physical comfort

Cool and warm mist humidifiers are a very common form of humidifier provided by Honeywell as well as several other well known humidity controlling manufacturers, but...

Which one will work best for you? Let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each:

Cool mist humidifiers: These systems have a filter that blocks the release of minerals and other particulates into the air. The water evaporates into your home’s environment in a cool stream of invisible air. Evaporative, impeller, and ultrasonic humidifiers all use cool mist technology. Cool mist humidifiers are easy to maintain, and the humidified air they release is easy to breathe. They are the choice for homes in warm geographical locations.
Drawbacks?
  - Cool mist models may be slightly noisier than warm mist humidifiers.
  - At some room temperatures, cool mist may make the room feel a little too cool and/or damp.

Warm mist humidifiers: Steam humidifiers and vaporizers are included in this category. These units provide a warm, comforting mist. A warm mist humidifier’s obvious advantage is in its health benefits. A receptacle is often built in to hold specially formulated medicinal liquids that are released into the air on the warm mist stream, relieving nasal congestion associated with colds. Warm mist humidifiers are, in general, quieter than their cool mist counterparts. They run cleaner than cool mist units and are the humidifier of choice in cooler geographical regions.
Disadvantages? They must be cleaned more often than cool mist units, and the cleaning is not as easy as with cool mist humidifiers. Also, warm mist models do not cover as large of an area as a cool mist solution.
